I should be able to determine the IP from my router logs - no clue what credentials to use since it hangs before getting to the point of creating an account. Unfortunately, I bought this xServe used (again, worked fine for a few weeks before this issue cropped up), and I never configured the LOM module, so I have to get the OS installed so that I can do so in the first place - I have no idea if the previous owner configured it, what IP address it is configured with, admin credentials, etc. gives pretty detailed status on hardware components. My understanding is that getting the LOM configured may be the key to figuring out what the hardware issue (if it really is hardware) is. and after about 3-4 seconds, the error light starts blinking. are all active prior to actually turning the machine "on"). as soon as I put a power cord in, the fan on the power supply spins up (fairly quiet), you can see the status lights on the mobo start lighting up (xServe has LOM/IPMI functionality, so the network card, etc. Good guess, but not in this case - lights start flashing before the system even boots (suggesting hardware issue). passes the friggin' TechTools tests, but won't install any OS I've tried. I've reset PRAM, removed all PCIe cards, tried every RAM combination possible with the sticks I have. but I can't get it booted enough to tell! The LOM should hopefully give me some more insight as to hardware issues. once configured, my plan has been to install ESX and run multiple VM's off the machine. I'm attempting to install 10.5 or 10.6 server *JUST* so that I can configure the Lights-out Management. Installing Mac OS 10.6.3 server (other set of CD's I scrounged up) - installs, but then after reboot, hangs on the "Welcome" screen, and never progresses any further. Installing Mac OS 10.6.0 server, won't boot from CD. Running TechTool/ProtoGo repeatedly on it reveals no issues whatsoever. It would boot, get to the setup screens, and then simply beach-ball. Installed the OS, but then it hung repeatedly at boot from then on (left it 48+ hours, no response). I've not found anything on Google that identifies it, so I wiped the internal drives, and attempted to re-install OS 10.6 server on it, in order to configure the lights-out-management console and check logs. Appears to be 3-4 rapid flashes, then off. Initial symptom was/is the amber "attention" light flashing, as soon as the system is powered up (before booting). ![]() It is a fairly recent acquisition, but worked perfectly for several weeks prior to the most recent issues. I have a 2009 (3,1 version) xServe that suddenly began exhibiting signs of hardware issues. ![]() officially throwing in the towel on this, and asking for help.
